Heirloom tomato - Paul Robeson
So I research the difference between heirloom and intercrossed tomatoes because I wanted to be really exonerated about those differences and found some interesting data I would like to divvy up . In fact this should enforce to all heirloom vs intercrossed veggies not just tomatoes but since I sort of specialize in tomatoes ( and pumpkins ) I ’ll handle it from that stand .
HEIRLOOMS

Heirloom tomato-Paul Robeson
Heirloom tomatoes are seeds that have been grown for a number of years , saved and passed down for generations . All heirloom plants are undefendable pollenate ( OP ) which means it is able to produce seedling with all its attributes just like its parent plant . Why should we develop heirloom ? just put because they sample well . They might not appear as jolly as they tend to crack or get catface scratches because of their sparse tegument and they can be more disease prostrate but it ’s gruelling to beat the savour of a heirloom love apple ! This is why you do n’t see a lot of them in supermarkets as they do n’t channelise well and might not be pretty - in otherwords they are not as marketable on a commercial level . Last year I blame mine the day before going to our Santa Fe Farmers Market to ensure the good flavor and many of them I had to handled very carefully so as not to crock up them but oh what flavor . And you know the supporter of Farmers market do n’t manage how they look - they care how they smack .
HYBRIDS
gardener , husbandman and plant breeders have been cross - pollenate mixed bag to get certain worthy traits they are looking for such as color , grain , disease resistance and taste , etc . for years . They try out to get the good features of both parent tomatoes . These are called hybrid tomatoes . Hybrids also pass course as well in nature but hybrids whether human being made or by nature are not as unchanging in that they may not regurgitate plants with indistinguishable traits .
hybrid should not be confused with GMOs ( genetically modified organisms ) which can be any flora , brute or microorganism which has been genetically alter using genetic applied science techniques . Hybrids are not potentially harmful to us and in fact have been popular since the other 50s ’ . True to American nature , it became how they looked - not how they try out on a commercial story . Now do n’t get me wrong , I grow a few hybrids every year because they by and large incline to be more disease resistant and the actual tomato looks good but I only grow some in pillowcase I have a disasterous class with my heirloom tomatoes . And some hybrids smack as good as heirlooms , some attend better too but overall give me a heirloom tomato anytime .
