In 1984 American grower Norman Gallagher of Chelan , Washington set a newworld mark of 612 pound sterling at the second one-year World Pumpkin ConfederationWeigh - Off .

Expertspredict that either a green squash racquets or a Cucurbita pepo will overstep 1,000 pounds by theturn of the century !
