It ’s hard to believe , but out off - grid mini cabin project at the farm is all complete . And it even has a name now too !
As we finished up the net skin senses over the last few week , we preserve think about what would make a fitting name for our tiny cabin at the farm .
And then it short came to us – “ The Shiplap Shanty ! ”
After all , much like every other structure at the farm , the DoI is deck out in shiplap .
And with it ’s exterior wood siding , tiny 10 x 14 footprint , and a little covered porch to boot , the condition shanty fit right along with shiplap perfectly .
So with that tell , here are the final details along with a look at heart and out of our little Shiplap Shanty . In addition to the pic , we include a warm three minute TV tour at the end of the article .
The Shiplap Shanty – A Look At Our Off Grid Mini-Cabin
The Interior Of The Cabin
At just 10 x 14 , the cabin has a small-scale step , but it certainly does n’t feel cramp at all .
It is hard to think that this is how it all looked just a few month back :
We had originally think of putting a murphy seam in to relieve floor infinite for catch some Z’s options . But instead , we terminate up using a dual - use sofa .
During the day , it is a capital seating field . But at nighttime , it pulls out with ease to create a queen - sized bed .
We create the interior using 10″ wide shiplap boards and metal ceiling . It is a look we fall in sexual love with when we fill in the farm house .
Not only does it look clean and burnished , it is exceedingly inexpensive and easy to install.(See : How To Install Shiplap With Ease )
We included a small dining table in the cabin as well in case the weather is a morsel dodgy out of doors . It has also become one of our preferred places to utilise when we need a quite berth to write .
The off - gridiron mini cabin is entirely power by a solar generator that runs off of two , 150 - watt panels stop up to the alloy roof .
It has enough magnate to keep the cabin going for 3 days without any sunlight .
We did install a single electric sales outlet for back - up , and to power a small elbow room airwave conditioner if needed . So far , we have n’t had to employ it all !
The Patio / Grill Area
The cabin ’s paver terrace and grill country is located powerful off of the side double - door entering to the off - grid mini cabin .
We really wanted to create a home for visitor to the farm to have their own space and seclusion . And this little “ tuck - away ” space is sure enough perfect for sitting and relaxing .
It has a little oxford grey barrel grillwork that is perfect for grill up a dinner party for two . In plus , we also get down the area with string lightness overhead for a bit of added ambiance .
The Off-Grid Mini Cabin’s Front Firepit / Sitting Area
In addition to the side dining and pose area , we produce a little “ beach ” area in front of the cabin as well .
It includes two of our 2 x 4 Adirondack Chairs and a modest fervor pit . We can often be found down here in the evening relaxing a mo after a day of working on the farm .
It faces our onetime reclaimed b , and make for a perfect sunset viewing field .
The Adirondack Chairs are still one of my personal favorite DIY projects we created at the farm .
They are last on 3 years old now , and their tough 2 x 4 grammatical construction has throw up to everything mother nature has delivered!See : Adirondack Chair Plans
