If you are a gardener who enjoy fragrant plants , then Kathi Keville ’s new bookThe Aromatherapy Garden : Growing Fragrant Plants for Happiness and Well - Being , should be on your reading list !
As the back cover proclaims : “ plant life aromas move our brains in surprising and sanitary ways , and append potent botanicals to your garden can make a restorative haven . Kathi Keville , internationally known aromatherapist and herbalist , show you how to create rich garden odor combinations and make your own body oils , tonics , and sachet . Tap into Keville ’s soundness , follow your nozzle , and discover the power of smell to please and heal . ”
Yet another handsome and well done al-Qur’an from Timber Press , this book is full of lovely , coloured photographs and peachy info on aromatic plants and creating you own fragrant garden . I know and respect Kathi Keville ’s former workplace and this late issue proves yet again her knowledge and years of loyalty as an aromatherapist .

The book is separate into five sections . “A Tradition of Scent in the Garden”discusses sweetness and how we comprehend aroma , essential oils and plant chemotypes , how plant use fragrance and why their redolence vary . My favorite entry in this section is on draw pollinator with detailed characteristics about pollinators and how they work the fragrant plants for nectar and pollen . Did you hump that flora pollinated by bees and tent flap sense scented , while those pollinated by beetles smack solid , musty , spicy or have fruity scent ? Or that moths have a very sensitive sentience of aroma while butterflies do n’t have a very good sense of flavor at all ? Instead , they have perceptiveness receptors on their feet which they apply to agnize a host plant .
There is a wealthiness of information here on plant life and your humor . Kathi tell us which botanical are best for make relaxed , remedy stress , others that are antidepressant or stimulating and ones that are aphrodisiacs . And she hash out fragrance garden throughout history to present daylight .
“ Designing with the Nose in Mind”is brimming with ideas . Kathi talks about styles from bungalow to formal gardens , using plant as elements of design and perfume garden themes from afternoon tea or culinary gardens to aromatherapy beds , fragrant indigen and children ’s gardens .

affect on to“Cultivating a Fragrance Garden”,this section works from the ground up , emphasize how important it is to know a works ’s native home ground in lodge to grow it in the right-hand conditions to make it fly high . Detailed discussions on cultivation on compost , Lord’s Day and shade , watering , type of mulch , plant propagation techniques and transplanting are include here .
In“A Harvest of Scents and Savors ” , the author extols the joys of a bouquet garden and the bounty it create . statement for gathering and dry out , preserving and hive away redolent botanicals are featured here . Blends , vinegars and teas are highlighted , as well as information on creating redolent ware such as saucy and dried sweetness , variety , sachet and dream pillow . I peculiarly enjoy the specifics on aromatherapy body oils from the garden and some of Kathi ’s simple normal including Gardener ’s healing embrocation , Lavender - Rose anti - inflammation oil color , Sleep and de - stressing massage oil color , Antidepressant massage petroleum and Sensual massage oil . I calculate anyone of you who are reading this could use one of the aformentioned right now !
Last though not least , and certainly the heavy plane section of the Good Book is“Profiles of Aromatic Plants ” . Herein lies plant profiles of 80 deliciously fragrant flora . Being a fragrance and sapidity fanatic myself , I screw read other like - minded and/or intimate herbalist description of plant aroma and taste . And Kathi ’s olfactory vignettes delight me . How could anyone not want to have the following clematis in their garden with such a mouthwatering description ? “ The flowers ofClematis armandii , often call evergreen clematis , fills the air with a delicious odor of bitter almonds , vanilla extract , and a fresh touch of love . Imagine honey - vanilla ice emollient topped with toasted almonds . This has to be the closest odour to dessert that the garden offers . The fragrancee of clematis reaches across a garden bed . ”

Among the visibility are botanicals ranging from mouth-watering , sweet or medicinal herb , honest-to-goodness heirloom flowers , some shrub , vine and trees , annuals and perennials ; some of the plants are pop and widely known , while a few are lesser known or off the radar of many folk . Besides her apt sensory sketches ( many of which I agree with heartily and a few made me goyes!that is so perfect a portrayal of olfactory property ) , Kathi let in a spot of history and folklore about these plant , aromatherapeutic selective information , plant characteristics , grow info and cultivar . Way to go Kathi !
