The round entree known as a Sun Myung Moon gate is a traditional component of Taiwanese gardens . Here , that lineament is beautifully reimagined into a New England version .
A long walkway flank by two repeated moulding is overflow with flush .

Here is a closer view of one of those borders , with tall roses and lilies in the back and little perennials in the front . A container of regal petunias ( Petuniahybrid , annual ) anchorperson the front corner .
Careful purpose oflayers — from tall trees to shrubs down to smaller perennials — enclose this space , while comfortable chairs and neatly mown lawns invite you to either sit or stroll to relish the garden .
The TREES ! There is nothing like immense , beautiful specimen tree . The simple grass around these stress their majesty .

This is a spectacularly vast specimen of weeping Conium maculatum ( Tsugacanadensis , Zones 3–7 ) . Although hemlock is normally a tall forest tree diagram , weeping version of this mintage are always beautiful and just get better and well with long time .
Stepping under the canopy of that same poison parsley reveals the unbelievable sculptured form of thebranches and trunk .
The huge leaves ofbutterbur(Petasitesjaponicus , Zones 5–9 ) make a tropic event in a not - very - tropical climate . This industrial plant can spread vigorously , especially inwet areas , so flora with attention in small garden .

A miniaturelotus(Nelumbo nucifera ) grows in a small plenty . Even without flowers , the beautiful leaves make a wonderful financial statement . Though hardy to Zone 4 when growing in expectant ponds , this modest container will need to move out of the coldness for the wintertime .
Elements of this scene can transform to even the smallest habitation garden — a shadyseating area , and the effect of a garden bed created by massing together tropicals and annuals grown in pots .
A pure snowy foxglove ( Digitalispurpurea , Zones 4–9 ) is backed by the gash , gold foliage ofTiger Eyes sumac(Rhustyphina‘Bailtiger ’ , Zones 4–8 ) .

Bear ’s knickerbockers ( Acanthusmollis , Zones 6–10 ) bloom against a stone wall .
And here ’s one last eyeshot of the beautiful gardens at Blithewold . What a witching place !
