I know many multitude amass them , but have you ever think about sprouting sea beans ?
Here ’s a raw shot of the burger edible bean ( Mucuna urens ) I showed you in myprevious poston drift seminal fluid :
And now here it is a week after I sawed a nick in it with a pocket knife , soaked it for a twenty-four hours or two , then put it in moist peat moss and vermiculite :

See the little root peeking out ? And how weirdly black and swollen the bean looks ? That fool submit on a lot of water ( and pierce its seed coat was no easy feat ) . I replanted the bean after the above picture and let it alone for a few more days … until a shoot rapidly emerged from the ground . And I do intend rapidly ! It produce about 12″ in a couple of solar day and started go around around in a circle looking for something to comprehend . It move so fast that my married woman and I sat on the porch and take in it make an entire revolution in about an hr . I stuck a little pole in for it to snap up … which it did – and twisted itself entirely tight to it within another time of day ’s time .
From what I register , this particular bean grow many ten-spot of feet into the air … get through the top of tall tree diagram … so I have no approximation how I ’ll be capable to keep it contain . I ’d wish to farm it to a gunpoint where it bears beans of its own , but that will mean protecting it from frosts this coming wintertime .

Here it is now :
Mucuna urensis a close relative of the velvet beans ( Mucuna pruriens ) I ’ve been maturate but it ’s manifestly even more tropical . Who would ’ve thought you could find a attic on the beach and grow it ? I picked these thing up rafts of times without ever thinking about germinate one . There ’s a first sentence for everything , I presuppose . And even if this does n’t do anything for my “ survival gardener ” cred , it ’s at the very least a rather satisfying experiment .
