A beautiful space made with hard work
Today we ’re shoot the breeze Kathy Bishop ’s beautiful garden .
I exist in Portland , Oregon , and my garden has acquire endlessly for the retiring 25 years . This begin as a bare fourth part - Akka dirt pot in a basic suburban neck of the woods . After having the original layout and design done by a professional landscape gardener and see areas that were just not work , I have redone the entire garden .
I went through theMaster Gardener programabout 20 years ago and am all self - taught through research and trial and error .

My garden is a labor of love , my joy and escape . I want to convey to any aspiring gardener that they can create a garden they love ; it just takes a plan , hard work , and determination and often can be done on a lowly budget .
Highlights of the back garden delimitation includearborvitae(Thuja occidentalis , Zones 2–7 ) and the lustrous red blooms of fan scarlet lobelia(Lobelia‘Fan Scarlet ’ , Zones 5–9 ) .
The back border transforms in the fall , with color from fall leaves , the pinkish bloom ofSedum‘Autumn Joy ’ ( zone 3–8 ) , and many other perennial .

Fan scarlet lobelia glows against thevariegated foliageofSalix‘Hakuro Nishiki ’ ( zone 5–8 ) .
Thebirdbathin the margin realise a wonderfulfocal pointamid all the lush perennials .
It ’s coolheaded to see the same spot a fiddling later in the time of year , as theSedum‘Autumn Joy ’ flower buds develop , the lobelia just keeps on bloom , and some cosmos(Cosmosbipinnatus , annual ) link up the scene .

This picture show shows that a charming outdooreating spacecan be created with a couple of card tables , a table material , and a pair of uneven chairs .
This photo is at the leftfield of the back borderline . It gets more shade , so I have Nipponese woods grass(Hakonechloamacra , Zones 5–9 ) , hydrangeas(Hydrangea macrophylla , Zones 5–9 ) , and Corsican mint(Mentha requienii , zone 6–9 ) , with some impatiens(Impatienswalleriana , Zones 9–11 or as an one-year ) coronate Boswell ’s brain .
This section of my back borderline tend to get a turn moreshade . Lots of hydrangeas are join by perennial , includingCoreopsis , Carex‘Toffee Twist ’ ( zone 7–10 ) , Nipponese forest green goddess , dim mondo grass(Ophiopogonplaniscapus‘Nigrescens ’ , Zones 5–9 ) , and chameleon plant(Houttuynia cordata , geographical zone 4–10 ) .
