More scenes from a sensational Southern garden in the late season
Hi GPODers !
We ’re back in Julie Prince ’s gorgeous garden in Albany , Georgia ( check outPart 1if you miss it ) . Here ’s a refresher on what Julie said about her garden and its growing condition this year :
We endured quite a raging , dry summer this yr and are still very dry . TheLimelight hydrangeas(Hydrangea paniculata ‘ public eye ’ , Zones 4–8 ) send packing all leafage during the week that the daily heat index cast from 108 ° to 112 ° despite daily watering . The leafage of many perennials scorched . Needless to say , we are enjoying some cooler conditions even though it ’s still warm than normal for mid November .

fond weather in the late season means that Julie does n’t have dozens of the classic fall foliation colors in her beds , even after most leaves have altogether fallen in northern gardens . However , that does n’t mean her garden lacks leafage interest . Colorful Croton tiglium bring a more tropical foliage punch , while an raiment of green plant institute in all sort of cool textures and forms .
Another view of this bed reveals a second , shine Croton tiglium and open a better aspect at the two - toned boat lilies ( Tradescantiaspathacea , Zones 9 - 11 or as an annual ) in the foreground .
These small violent dahlia are a real delicacy , but adding these rust-brown metal frogs to the view makes the spot so much more whimsical and fun .

Another curly croton in a pot is the connecting plant life that ties together bright yellow marigold and deep purple ( almost inglorious ) sweet potato vine .
I boast a couple of photos of this variegate blue trump vine ( Thunbergiagrandiflora‘Variegata ’ , Zones 8–11 or as an annual ) yesterday , and I could n’t resist sharing one more . Julie let me know that this plant has now gone limp and bleak after a few nights of freezing temperature . A whole load of mess to clean up , but its beauty in the peak time of year looks to be worth it !
Another arresting crampoon in Julie ’s garden is this clean belle de nuit ( Ipomoeaalba , Zones 10–12 or as an one-year ) . These glowing ashen flower egress at dusk , giving you a cause to loiter in the garden even when the nighttime temperatures start to plunge .

A close up of those moonflower prime bring out the subtle yellow - green outset that creates more dimension and append to its “ glowing ” effect .
In the foliage bed photos above , we saw a petite glimpse of this unbelievable tree philodendron ( Philodendron bipinnatifidum , Zones 9–11 ) , but gratefully Julie also provided us this a swell close - up view . It ’s counterpoint so well with more of those bold boat lily .
Yesterday we come across some cheeseparing ups of this garden bed , pore in on specific plant coupling and combinations , but today we get a aspect at the bigger picture . There are so many endearing plant life to admire , but I ’m evenly draw to the stunning orangish boulder that rests in the center . A few years back I visitedProvidence Canyon , which is just a fiddling over an hour away from the townsfolk of Albany that Julie ’s garden can be find in . Dubbed ‘ Georgia ’s Little Grand Canyon ’ it ’s an incredible natural landmark , as well as a select position to view the orange , flushed and regal land and rock that can be recover in this expanse . What a mythologic bit of nature to have in your garden , Julie !

As beautiful at night as it is during the 24-hour interval !
