My mischievous tabby , Cheddar , got his head caught in the African tea - food container   eyelid .

Farmer who exist in rural field typically keep barn cat , who spend their animation alfresco catching black eye and sleeping on Basle on hay . But when you have an urban farm , it ’s very likely you keep your cat indoors to protect them from speeding cars , marauding dogs and territorial tomcats .

At my urban farm , I have four cats who live in the firm . Two of them — Cheddar and Stanley — are real terror , and truly make life a challenge . More than once , I have thought about tossing them outside and letting them handle with the dangers of urban farm living . In my neck of the woods , this includes not only rush cars and marauding dogs , but also athirst coyotes . My scruples gets the better of me just as I ’m debating plough them out into the frigidity . or else , I keep them indoors and I suffer .

One of the greatest challenges of having Cheddar and Stanley — who are litter brothers — in the house is keeping them out of the pantry . This is where I store the cat and hot dog food , along with the much of the multitude intellectual nourishment . Soon after we got these two cats about four years ago , Cheddar learned to open up the larder door . He discovered that if he jump up and pushed down the lever grip , the room access would pop open .

To thwart this , Randy added a lock to the door . We thought we were so clever , making it so our bright - fuck cat could n’t flip the lever tumbler down . We did n’t know that unless you slammed the room access heavily before you locked it , the door latch was n’t secure . It did n’t take Cheddar long to find out that if he reached his mitt under the locked room access , he could rend it capable .

So yesterday good morning , when I got up to prey the thirsty ring of animals who live here , I was n’t surprised to find the pantry door ajar and dry cat food dissipate all over the floor . My normally hungry big cat were n’t crowding around me meowing , so it was obvious all had dined on the despoliation — including Bodhi , who is on a extra low - ash diet and is n’t supposed to be eating even Caterpillar kibble .

I began picking up the spilled cat solid food off the floor and putting it back in the easy - pour container I keep it in . I had n’t yet noticed that the palpebra of the cat food container was missing . At least not until I got a looking at Cheddar .

My incredibly wise but dopey - looking cross - eyed tabby was gingerly walk through the life way with the food container hat hang around his cervix . patently , he had stuck his head into the container and gotten it get in the hole in the eyelid earmark for the measuring cup that normally rests there .

I figure that the he must have been tire out the palpebra for quite a while , because the other cat were completely ignoring him . I can suppose the hysteria that must kick in ensued in the midriff of the night when Cheddar came racing out of the pantry in a panic , his question trap in the elephantine chapeau . Cats must have been flying in every guidance , with that terrified “ What the Hades … ? ” see on their case that cats get under such circumstances .

After suffer a good laugh , I decided to let Cheddar wear the lid a little morsel longer . He seemed none the bad for it , though I did acknowledge that he was spending a plenty of time walk along the walls . I ’m guessing this was some attempt to feel balanced with this large charge card noose around his neck ?

I finally decide he had worn the lid long enough and removed it from his cervix . Honestly , I wanted to leave it on him all sidereal day , but soon realise he could n’t suit into the covered litter box with that matter on his head . And the last matter I wanted to do that break of day was cull up cat poop off the story .

Do I call back Cheddar find out his lesson ? utterly not . He ’ll be back inside that pantry at the next opportunity , wreaking mayhem with his naughty brother Stanley nigh behind .
