Today ’s exposure are from Barbara Vanderhoof in Mears , Michigan . Barb says,“Mears is a little town in middle westerly Michigan about a mile from Lake Michigan , so I garden in a tidy sum of sand amended with compost .

“ Prior to move here from the Chicago suburban area I had never garden in my life , but now that I had a small property , I decided to try it ! I ’ve learned a lot through trial and error , but now I think I ’m make the bent of it . I ’ll never say my garden is finished , because , as we all know , it never will be !

“ I have only about 4 - 5 hour of sunlight a day , so I produce a lot of shade - devotee , such as ‘ Annabelle ’ ‘ spotlight ’ , oakleaf , and ‘ Invincibelle Pink ’ hydrangeas . I also have a routine of different hostas throughout my gardens .

“ My yard is separated into department . One of the pictures is of my side yard with a drinking fountain fountain and cement bench . There is also a picture of my newest addition , an erstwhile cast - iron bathtub that I made into a cascade outflow . It even has some little goldfish swimming around in it ! The other two pictures are of my bog garden , the pool was really 2 separate ponds , with a wooden bridge over the center to make it look like one self-aggrandising pool .

“ Last twelvemonth , the modest pond rebound a leak , so alternatively of digging it up and start out over , I filled it in with soil and decided to spring up all the plant I ca n’t arise elsewhere here , such as astilbe , some flag irises , and ligularia .

“ The last picture I put in for my wonderful hubby , who does n’t garden , but he does make me great decorative item , such as birdhouses and that beautiful barn wood shed ! ”
