Trying to find a silver lining when everything in covered in snow and ice

Happy Friday GPODers !

I know that January gets a lot of hatred for being a long , inhuman calendar month . After the senior high of the holiday time of year , January can often be the hard , cold reality that wintertime is here for a while . However , this year I ’m feel a bit more angsty about February . Here in Connecticut , February has bring us more snow than we ’ve had in a while , as well as a considerable amount of ice and sight of below - freeze days . For the shortest month of the yr , it ’s feeling like an arduous and windy roadblock to March and the beginning of bound that awaits us there .

Despite the harsh temperature , I ’ve been trying to get outside every day to get hold the beauty in this quiet time of the class ( to varying success ) . Here are some pictures from a few of those trip-up outside .

Earlier in the calendar month , it was still nice to see a light layer of snow cling to offset and blanketing the land in blanched . I cogitate this small Japanese maple wait particularly cool with its web of branch .

Old hydrangea blooms even got a 2d hike of involvement when sprinkle with some lightheaded snow . When we featured Cleo Raulerson ’s unbelievable wintertime garden in Washington ( be trusted tocheck that out here , if you missed it ) , she made the scuttlebutt , “ Yes , dark-brown is a good garden colour . ” Not only do I completely harmonise , I think that different subtlety of brown , beige , and tan are the complete compliment to a sassy snowfall .

A couple of workweek later , pelting and more snow mixed to create this incredible force on the lawn . The video do not do justice to just how shiny and almost iridescent this was .

The melting ice made incredible pattern in the grass . We act so heavily in our gardens every twelvemonth to craft the perfect shapes , patterns and expressive style , but nature has a direction of create art with informality .

Some of our largest container remain out year - daily round with pot soil . The soil often gets pushed around and dug up by squirrel and other animals , so this pot had a mound of soil that make the coolheaded “ wave ” of ice over top . Not as exciting as the flowers that will fill this container in spring , but a very interesting , short - lived universe by Mother Nature .

Another looking at at the green goddess creeping out from its icy containment .

in conclusion , our current conditions . A few more snow days have occurred since the residuum of the picture , as well as more ice . The last violent storm we had also brought a blistering flatus that beam ice fly and brought down lots of offset . It looks like our plant have withstood the harsh weather , but we will see what warmer weather condition impart !
